The Carry-On Only Challenge — What I Learned Traveling for 2 Weeks with One Bag
Share
Two weeks. Six cities. One carry-on. Here's what I learned.
You wear less than you think. I planned 14 outfits and wore maybe 8. A capsule wardrobe of neutral, mix-and-match pieces is all you need — and all you'll actually reach for.
The right gear is everything. Compression packing cubes reclaimed space I didn't know I had. A slim tech organizer kept chargers and cables from turning into a knot. And a packable tote bag handled overflow shopping without adding a checked bag on the way home.
Comfort items earn their weight. A neck pillow, a sleep mask, and yes — a good travel cup — made long travel days dramatically more bearable. These aren't luxuries. They're sanity.
What I'd do differently: I'd swap one "just in case" outfit for a better pair of walking shoes. Every. Time.
The carry-on only challenge isn't about sacrifice. It's about traveling with intention — and realizing how little you actually need to roam well.
